Our History
Bartow Center for Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (previously Woodright Industries) has been in operation since 1972. The Center was originally privately funded and named, Bartow County Mental Retardation Center. The program was established by a group of parents whose children were not served by the public-school system due to the level of their disabilities. Today, BCIDD is a public agency under the Bartow County Board of Health. The majority of the organization’s funding comes from the Medicaid COMP AND NOW Waiver Programs. BCIDD’s participation in this program is authorized by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD). Additional State funds are also obtained through contract with DBHDD. (new paragraph) - In 1999 BCIDD first obtained accreditation by CARF, the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. BCIDD has maintained full accreditation since that time. Accreditation by CARF provides assurance to individuals and their caregivers that our agency provides quality services. BCIDD also maintains certification from Georgia Collaborative Administrative Services Organization (ASO). The Georgia Collaborative ASO facilitates the delivery of whole-health, person-centered and culturally sensitive supports and services to individuals and their families. Health and Safety Inspections are conducted at least annually. Results of these inspections are maintained on file and are available for public review. (new paragraph) - Through its work, personal independence, and social skills programs, BCIDD is committed to supporting individuals to become contributing citizens and have valued roles within their communities. BCIDD provides Community Access Services (both individual and group), Supported Employment (Group and Individual), Behavior Support Services, Specialized Medical Supplies, Transportation Services for Community Access Individual and Project SEARCH for adults.
